While most of the educational institutions in world are turning to online education in a bid to continue helping learners who are out of schools due to the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic, one wonders how and whether the disconnected communities and learners are catered for. There are many rural learners and educators who are faced with numerous barriers such as costly and unreliable internet, inaccessibility to internet when it comes to online education!
As educational institutions are thinking of how to bridge this education gap that is being created, I need to draw our attention to the use of a free and open offline EdTech solution known as Kolibri learning platform to support our learners. Kolibri learning platform could be a long term project for schools and communities faced with barriers such as those mentioned above.
What is Kolibri Offline EdTech?
Kolibri is an initiative of Learning Equality aimed at supporting learners and educators in communities where internet connectivity is not stable, not reliable, and costly and beyond their reach. This platform has a great pool of open educational resources on various subjects developed to support learning without internet requirement.
Why schools and communities need Kolibri EdTech solution
Through Kolibri, we have the power to create home and school kolibri powered libraries for our students and pupils in primary and secondary schools. Kolibri is free and doesn’t need any subscriptions; it is an open educational solution platform with very few barriers to learning; with Kolibri, educators can develop, import and manage their own resources; It is an EdTech solution that runs on various devices and with very easy to navigate channels!

Schools can think of training teachers on how to use this platform to enable them use it in supporting their learners during and after this pandemic. A big applause to the Luweero Diocese Education Department for training its teachers on how to use Kolibri in schools. A full playlist for learning how to use Kolibri can be accessed here.
Edify Uganda Trainings
Sincere and special thanks to Edify Uganda, CSOA and ITAU for teaming up and organize Teachers’ e-Learning training and Teacher’s digital skills workshops both of which we trained a number of teachers nationwide. It was a honor to share with teachers on how to use Kolibri EdTech to support learning!. Majority of the teachers were excited about this topic and many built their Kolibri powered libraries after these trainings. Take a look at Kolibri training session in COHORT2 below
Kolibri is a perfect solution for most of the schools in not only rural areas but also urban areas especially in Africa. I encourage educational leaders and teachers to utilize opportunities that Kolibri provides in learning. Take a look at how to download and install Kolibri on your computer
