In today’s series of Know Your Executive, I bring you a name synonymous with the ICT Teachers’ Association of Uganda. Mukalele Rogers is the National Co-ordinator of the ICT Teachers’ Association and is popular among the teachers of ICT and Computer Studies in Uganda.
Rogers Mukalele is a soft spoken gentleman with an exceptional grasp of ICT as a subject. So passionate is he about the ICT Teachers’ Association that he has on many occasions dug dip into his pockets just to make a few things go through. So, who is Rogers Mukalele?
Mukalele went to Busitema University for Bsc Education (Teaching subjects Mathematics and Computer Studies) from 2007-2010, and Makerere University for B. Information Tech from 2013-2016. He emerged as the best performing graduate in science based disciplines during the Makerere University 67th Graduation, having obtained a CGPA of 4.91.
Currently, Mukalele is an assistant lecturer at Makerere University – Jinja Campus. Prior to that, he was a teacher at Kololo Secondary School.
Before joining Kololo SS, Mukalele taught at Jinja College School were he first worked as a computer laboratory attendant and later on as a math and computer studies teacher. This job laid a strong foundation for him in the field of ICT.
Besides conventional classroom teaching, Mukalele Rogers is a facilitator of workshops and seminars.
Mukalele the Author
Mukalele Rogers is a prolific author and has a series of books behind his name since 2013. He has over the years published 5 computer studies and ICT books which are still currently being used by thousands of teachers and students in schools across the country. Mukalele’e books are available both in hard and soft copy.
Mukalele the facilitator
Mukalele has been to virtually every region of Uganda facilitating audiences in the use of ICT and also to schools in a bid to polish candidates before UNEB examinations.
Mukalele the ICT Entreprenuer
Mukalele’s deep understanding of ICT has driven him to invest in the IT industry. He is the brain behind Sharebility, an education resource sharing site very popular among teachers and students in Uganda.
Mukalele also partnered with Dumba Stephen and co-founded E-zone Web Services, a web design and hosting agency.
Mukalele and WordPress
Mukalele’s name and presence is synonymous with WordPress in Uganda. Mukalele has made his presence felt in the WordPress community in Uganda and recently started the Jinja WordPress meetup. He is a common figure around WordPress meetups. I am one of the beneficiaries of his lessons as he came and introduced WordPress to us at E-zone School of Computing.
The other side of Mukalele
Mukalele spends most of his time on a computer or phone. Little is known about his life outside ICT related activities. The only record I have of him in an extra curricular activity is the bike ride that was organised by the WordPress community sometime last year.
